The Touch…….
January 2025
.....of Elegance
One of the many advertising mantras used by the company during the 1950s was Pinkham Gloves – The touch of Elegance
Sue Nightingale has been in touch following her discovery of a pair of her late mother’s Pinkham evening gloves.
The long evening gloves belonged to Nora Nightingale and her daughter Sue explained:
“My Mother always had style and was often complimented on her choice of clothes. I'm happy to say I inherited this from her! Looking at some old photos, she looks like a film star, in the more classical era than today!”
This photograph of her mother wearing the Pinkham gloves epitomises The Touch of Elegance philosophy perfectly.
The occasion was a Ladies’ Evening at the Botanical Gardens in Edgbaston, Birmingham, on 24th March 1961
Sue went on to say
“I think she looks lovely and my Father looks smart, as he always did. I did not make this dress. I was only a little girl at the time but made subsequent dresses and outfits for her. Sewing and dressing people has been my career in the theatre. I loved my creative work.
She would be pleased and amused to know her photo was going to be used for your archives.”
A fabulous group of people with such big smiles on their faces and all looking immaculate, in every way.
What is interesting in connection with the gloves is that the gloves are not the star of the show. The style and elegance of the occasion take centre stage and the gloves just play their part.
What an era.
Many thanks to Sue Nightingale for sharing this wonderful story
